Securing the Future: AI and Data Governance at IBM TechExchange

by | Oct 6, 2025 | Trust3 AI

Join me at IBM TechXchange October 6th through 9th 2025 in Orlando Florida with speaker Don Basco Durai

I am thrilled to announce that I will be speaking at the IBM TechExchange conference this week. It’s an honor to be part of such a significant event, and I look forward to connecting with fellow professionals to discuss the critical challenges and opportunities in our field. My focus will be on two sessions dedicated to the pillars of modern technology: security, governance, and trust in AI and data-driven systems.

These topics are more than just industry buzzwords; they represent the foundation upon which we must build our digital future. As organizations increasingly rely on AI and vast data ecosystems to drive decisions, the need for robust frameworks to manage them has become paramount. My presentations will explore two powerful open-source solutions that address these needs head-on: Trust3.ai and Apache Ranger.

The AI Governance Imperative: Building Trust with Trust3.ai

My first session, “PAIG – Security & Safety for GenAI Applications and AI Agents [1449],” will introduce an essential tool for the responsible development of artificial intelligence. It’s important to note that the project, formerly known as PAIG, has been renamed Trust3.ai to better reflect its core mission.

As generative AI and autonomous agents become more integrated into business operations, the risks associated with them multiply. How can you ensure that your AI applications are secure? How do you guarantee they comply with complex regulations and adhere to your organization’s ethical principles? These are the questions that keep leaders up at night.

Trust3.ai is an open-source solution designed to provide clear answers. It helps organizations establish an accountable and enforceable AI governance framework from the ground up. The platform offers end-to-end visibility into how AI models are being used, allowing you to evaluate risks and enforce policies dynamically.

Key aspects we will cover in this session include:

  • End-to-End Visibility: Understand how your AI models and agents are operating in real-time. Trust3.ai provides a comprehensive view that eliminates blind spots in your AI ecosystem.
  • Dynamic Policy Enforcement: Move beyond static rulebooks. The platform enables you to implement dynamic policies that adapt to new threats and evolving compliance landscapes, ensuring your AI usage remains secure.
  • Risk Evaluation and Mitigation: Proactively identify and assess potential risks related to security, bias, and compliance. We will explore how Trust3.ai provides the tools to mitigate these risks before they become major problems.
  • Aligning with Ethical Standards: We’ll discuss how to build a framework that ensures your AI systems operate in alignment with your company’s values and ethical guidelines, fostering trust with customers and stakeholders.

Governance, Reliability and Security

This session is designed for anyone involved in deploying, managing, or overseeing AI systems. You will leave with a practical understanding of how open-source governance can help you innovate confidently while maintaining control.

Centralized Control for a Decentralized World: Apache Ranger

My second presentation, “Apache Ranger: Centralized Data Security and Governance [4144], shifts the focus to the data that fuels our AI and analytics platforms. In today’s distributed data environments, maintaining consistent security and access control is a massive challenge. Data lives everywhere—in data lakes, warehouses, and streaming platforms—and each system often has its own set of security protocols.

This fragmented approach creates security gaps and makes compliance a nightmare. Apache Ranger provides a solution by offering a centralized framework for data security and governance. It allows you to define and enforce fine-grained security policies across a wide range of data platforms from a single, unified interface.

During this session, we will dive into the core capabilities of Apache Ranger:

  • Centralized Security Administration: Learn how to manage security policies for multiple data sources from one place. This simplifies administration, reduces the chance of human error, and ensures consistency.
  • Fine-Grained Authorization: We will explore how to set detailed access controls. You can define policies based on users, groups, and roles, and specify permissions for databases, tables, columns, and even files.
  • Comprehensive Auditing: Discover how Apache Ranger captures a detailed audit trail of all access requests. This centralized audit log is invaluable for demonstrating compliance and investigating security incidents.
  • Cross-Platform Consistency: See how Ranger integrates with diverse data platforms like Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, and more. This enables you to enforce the same high standards of security across your entire data ecosystem.

Trust AI Unified Trust Layer

By centralizing data governance, organizations can significantly strengthen their security posture, streamline compliance efforts, and ensure the integrity of their data at scale. This session will provide a clear roadmap for implementing a unified data security strategy with Apache Ranger.

Join the Conversation on Open Source and Trust

The common thread connecting both sessions is the power of open-source technology to solve the most pressing challenges in AI and data. Open-source solutions like Trust3.ai and Apache Ranger foster collaboration, transparency, and innovation, allowing the entire community to contribute to building more secure and trustworthy systems.

I am genuinely excited to share these insights at IBM TechExchange and, more importantly, to learn from my peers. The conversations and connections made at events like this are what push our industry forward. I look forward to discussing how we can collectively shape a future where AI and data are leveraged securely, ethically, and responsibly.

If you are attending the conference, I hope you will join me for one or both of these sessions. Let’s connect and explore the future of secure and governed technology together.
