Securing the Future: AI and Data Governance at IBM TechExchange

I am thrilled to announce that I will be speaking at the IBM TechExchange conference this week. It’s an honor to be part of such a significant event, and I look forward to connecting with fellow professionals to discuss the critical challenges and opportunities in our field. My focus will be on two sessions dedicated to the pillars of modern technology: security, governance, and trust in AI and data-driven systems.

These topics are more than just industry buzzwords; they represent the foundation upon which we must build our digital future. As organizations increasingly rely on AI and vast data ecosystems to drive decisions, the need for robust frameworks to manage them has become paramount. My presentations will explore two powerful open-source solutions that address these needs head-on: Trust3.ai and Apache Ranger.

The AI Governance Imperative: Building Trust with Trust3.ai

My first session, “PAIG – Security & Safety for GenAI Applications and AI Agents [1449]” will introduce an essential tool for the responsible development of artificial intelligence. It’s important to note that the project, formerly known as PAIG, has been renamed Trust3.ai to better reflect its core mission.

As generative AI and autonomous agents become more integrated into business operations, the risks associated with them multiply. How can you ensure that your AI applications are secure? How do you guarantee they comply with complex regulations and adhere to your organization’s ethical principles? These are the questions that keep leaders up at night.

Trust3.ai is an open-source solution designed to provide clear answers. It helps organizations establish an accountable and enforceable AI governance framework from the ground up. The platform offers end-to-end visibility into how AI models are being used, allowing you to evaluate risks and enforce policies dynamically.

Key aspects we will cover in this session include:

Governance, Reliability and Security

This session is designed for anyone involved in deploying, managing, or overseeing AI systems. You will leave with a practical understanding of how open-source governance can help you innovate confidently while maintaining control.

Centralized Control for a Decentralized World: Apache Ranger

My second presentation, “Apache Ranger: Centralized Data Security and Governance [4144]” shifts the focus to the data that fuels our AI and analytics platforms. In today’s distributed data environments, maintaining consistent security and access control is a massive challenge. Data lives everywhere—in data lakes, warehouses, and streaming systems—and managing access policies across these silos is enormously complex.

Apache Ranger has emerged as the industry standard for solving this problem. It provides a centralized framework for defining, administering, and managing security policies across the entire Hadoop and modern data ecosystem. In this session, we will explore how Ranger enables organizations to enforce consistent security policies, audit data access, and meet compliance requirements across diverse data platforms.

Whether you’re operating on-premises, in the cloud, or in a hybrid environment, the principles of centralized data governance through Apache Ranger remain critical. Join me to learn how to apply these principles to your own data infrastructure.
